Target and Study Regions

BOLSTER will launch action research in ten European regions. Seven of those regions are at high risk of being affected by the EGD, as they have a high concentration of carbon-intensive industries: Hainaut in Belgium, Halle in Germany, Upper Silesia in Poland, Prahova in Romania, Stara Zagora in Bulgaria, Istria in Croatia and León in Spain. These regions have high concentrations of coal, steel, cement, chemical and/or fossil fuel industries and are referred in the project as Target Regions.

The other three regions have already undergone an economic transition and will be studied in order to learn from the past: Zuidoost-Brabant in the Netherlands, Cluj in Romania and Coimbra in Portugal. These regions will be referred to as study regions, since we will mainly do research activities there.
